TRAI Mobile Number Portability New Regulations to be Effective from 11 November

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended the time limit to implementing of Mobile Number Portability (MNP). There will be a lot of relief for telecom companies. The new regulations of MNP will now be effective from November 11, it was first to be effective from September 30.

With this move of TRAI, the new customers will have to wait for the new rules for mobile number portability. Under the new regulations, the period for porting the mobile number was reduced to two days. In order to make the port system faster and simpler, TRAI directed all telecom companies as mandatory to port the number within 2 days of the customer's application.
Right now this process takes 7 days.  TRAI issued the revised MNP rules in December last year and was to be implemented as mandatory from 30 September, which will now come into effective from 11 November. Earlier, telecom companies had met TRAI on September 17 and September 23 to extend the deadline. They said that, they needed more time for testing the new facility so that customers would not be inconvenienced later.

Explaining that TRAI has kept the new price of mobile number portability at Rs 5.74. The new MNP rates were to come into effect from 30 September. Telecom companies will benefit since MNP prices change. Let us tell you that companies pay 19 rupees to port the number of their customers. Apart from this, companies like Jio, Airtel, Vodafone and BSNL can save 75 crores in a year.
